Trekking in Darjeeling

Darjeeling a queen of the Himalayas is often remembered as a viewing point of Mt. Kanchendzonga range of the Himalayas and famous tea plantation, however, little do people know that the famous Singalila ridge which separates the mountain ranges of Sikkim and West Bengal lies close to Darjeeling.

Darjeeling serves as the first main point to visit the famous SANDHAKPHU TREK and SINGALILA NATIONAL PARK. Just an hour's drive from Darjeeling is Maneybhanjyang which is a base camp to Sandhakphu Trek and Singalila National Park.

Sandhakphu Trek is one of the finest easy to moderate trekking destinations in India and offers spectacular and panoramic views of the mighty Himalayan range of both India and Nepal side. From the summit of Sandhakphu (3636 m / 11,930 ft), one can see four of the world's highest peaks Mt. Everest (8,848.86m), Mt. Kanchendzonga (8586m), Mt. Lhotse (8516m), and Mt. Makalu (8481m).

The world-famous SLEEPING BUDDHA pose of the Himalayas is seen from the summit of Sandhakphu and Singalila range. From nowhere in the world one can witness such spectacular and spiritual views.

Singalila National Park is a rich biodiversity hotspot. It is abundantly blessed with both Flora and Fauna. It is home to many exotic plants and animals which are rare and unique. Animals like Red Panda, Leopard, Himalayan Black Beer, barking deer, etc are found here and varieties of Rhododendron, Orchids, Pine, and Bamboo are found too.

Sandhakphu trek is organized on both a Camping and Tea House basis. Tea House and Lodge stay basis is the most common in this trek route.

This trek is suitable for both beginners and experience. Anyone who is physically and mentally sound and ages between 4 years to 80 years can undertake this trek. In fact, this is the best short Trek for newbies and beginners.

The best time for Trek to Sandhakphu is during the Spring (mid-March to May) and autumn (Mid-September to November)
